In October 1958, I was dragged or more probably pushed kicking and screaming into this world. I have no recollection of 1958 I was only here for just over 2 months of it, so mum has chosen this 1st track. Apparently Volare (Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu) by Dean Martin was everywhere, whether it was being played in Westbury Maternity Hospital, (above) Newport Pagnell, England at the time of my birth I couldn’t say, but as it was 1958 we can be pretty confident there was no whale music or a birthing pool.
Elsewhere in Newport Pagnell – Taylor’s were “preparing” mustard – about the only one you could get in the UK that wasn’t Colman’s and Aston Martin were producing the DB Mark III, the car James Bond drove in (the novel version of) Goldfinger.
The Dean Martin version is a cover, the original was recorded by Italian singer-songwriter Domenico Modugno and came 3rd in 1958 Eurovision Song contest. I wonder if there will be any other Eurovision songs that make it into 60@60?
Number 1 when I was born – Carolina Moon / Stupid Cupid – Connie Francis
